Actor Alec Baldwin has broken his silence after he discharged a prop firearm, killing his director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring a director on Thursday at the set of a Western movie he is producing and starring in.

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins,” said Balwin in a Tweet on Thursday afternoon.

Baldwin also said he is “fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred.”

The incident occurred on Thursday on the set of the movie “Rust," being filmed in New Mexico.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s officials said Hutchins, 42, was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Baldwin said in another Tweet that he is in touch with Hutchins' husband, offering support to him and his family.

“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna,” said Baldwin.

A spokesperson for Baldwin previously said that the accident on set involved the misfire of a prop gun loaded with blanks.

Director, Joel Souza, who was also shot, was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where he’s undergoing treatment for his injuries.

Baldwin, who grew up on Long Island, is often seen in Central New York visiting family. His mother founded the Baldwin Fund which raises money to prevent and treat breast cancer.

Production has been halted on the film.
