Eureka Police patch

Eureka Police are investigating several recent reports about people rummaging through unlocked vehicles in the Arbors of Rockwood, Top Notch and Shaws Garden subdivisions. At least one car, one gun and one wallet were stolen during the crime spree, which occurred between midnight and 3:30 a.m. Oct. 7, police reported.

During the spree, a 2011 Kia Forte valued at about $15,000 was stolen from outside a home in the 100 block of Hunters Lake Court. A 32-year-old Eureka woman told investigators the car was unlocked and the keys were in the center console, the report said.

A .9 mm Glock 19 was stolen from an unlocked 2017 Ford Explorer in the 17000 block of Wyman Ridge Drive. A 33-year-old Eureka man told investigators he left the SUV unlocked, and the gun, which is worth about $600, was in an unlocked gun safe inside the vehicle, according to the report.

Video surveillance showed someone enter the SUV at about 12:27 a.m. that day and remain inside it for about 20 seconds. During the same period, two vehicles were seen traveling slowly along the street with their headlights off, Eureka Police reported.

In addition, a 41-year-old Eureka woman’s wallet was stolen out of her unlocked 2021 Subaru Outback parked outside a home in the 1700 block of Rockwood Drive. The wallet had four credit cards, a driver’s license, $60 in gift cards and other items. Altogether, the stolen items were valued at about $95, the report said.

As of Oct. 11, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. Anyone who had items stolen from their vehicle the morning of Oct. 7 or who has information about the thefts is asked to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
