Liverpool Injury Update: Jones Boost and Thiago Heartbreak

While Liverpool veteran midfielder Thiago Alcantara remains unavailable with a calf injury at the weekend, young Curtis Jones is back in training ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

The young Scouser returned to full training Friday afternoon after time away due to a groin issue he picked up while away with England’s U21 squad. Meanwhile, Thiago continues training alone.

In his pre-match press conference, manager Jürgen Klopp suggested that Thiago may in fact be some ways away from a return to action.

“He was not in team training yet and will not be this week, for sure,” Klopp noted. “He is running, so that’s a good sign.

“I am not sure, maybe it is before the international break or, for sure, after the international break, that’s what we expect. We will see.”

The skilled Spaniard was never one to collect loads of appearances at his previous clubs, so injury absences are perhaps not entirely unexpected now that he’s plying his trade with the Reds.

Regardless, Klopp will have wanted to go to Old Trafford with full options available, and even without Thiago he’s likely to have some choices to make on Sunday when it comes to who starts and who just starts on the bench.
