The Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center will hold a forum on Monday, eight days ahead of the Nov. 2 election to decide three seats on the Town Council.
The center is located at 311 W Main St. The forum will start at 6:30 p.m. and feature all four candidates for the three at-large seats
— incumbents Steve Baker, Todd Carnes and Ron Williams, along with challenger Lachin Hatemi, a local doctor and owner of Veritas Health Group.
“The purpose of this forum is to educate voters about the candidates and to bring business and area residents together to hear how the candidates stand on issues of importance to the business community,” stated Angelle LaBorde, the chamber's president and CEO, in a press release.
The forum will consist of a timed question-and-answer session, as well as opportunities for each candidate to give an opening personal statement and closing remarks. The moderator will be Michael Burgess, lead teacher for The Center for Law and Global Policy Development at River Bluff High School.
Questions will not be taken from the audience the night of the forum, but the release states, "Members of the business community had an opportunity to submit topics and questions for candidates prior to the event."
The release also emphasizes that "the Lexington Chamber is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization and does not support or oppose any candidates for political office."
