App Review: Runkeeper

Temperatures have finally dropped below 90 degrees in College Station, which means everyone is out and about, enjoying the lovely Texas “fall” weather. What better way to enjoy the nicer weather than getting back on your fitness grind? With the newly updated version of Runkeeper, you can take advantage of the breezy, sunny weather while advancing your fitness journey.

The app has been up and running since 2008, but over the years has continued to update and evolve to create an overall better experience for its users. The app’s overall goal is to track your fitness progress whether it be walking, cycling, running or basically any other physical activity. The app starts by gathering your personal information, like gender, height, and weight to track your progress. The app then goes through the different types of goals that you can set whether that is building endurance, losing weight, or toning. Once in the app, you can log and track all of your fitness endeavors. With GPS built in, the app can map your exact trail of where you completed your outdoor exercise. Additionally, the app gives you audio updates either on every mile or every few minutes, so that you don’t have to look at your phone while training. Runkeeper makes for a great hands free exercise experience all while motivating you to keep going.

With its latest updates, Runkeeper has made it possible to have virtual races with all your friends. Users of the app can set up teams and add different friends to participate in a race all while having audio cues update the users while on their run. Additionally, one new section of Runkeeper has guided workouts for both beginners and pros, including training for a 5k or 10k.

The app is available to both Android and Apple users and offers a free version and an upgraded version called Runkeeper Go with more depth on insights and training plans. Download Runkeeper to enjoy the lovely weather all while bettering your health and crushing personal goals.

Cameron is a junior Communication major at Texas A&M University from San Antonio, Texas. When she is not attending classes, she spends her time working out, going on sunset drives with friends, online shopping, attending A&M football games, and being involved in her sorority. As you will notice in her articles, she is an avid music listener and loves to contribute to MW by writing lots of candid album reviews over the latest trending music. Some of her “little joys” include a glass of chardonnay, Valentine’s Day, sweet smelling candles, the color pink, country concerts, and Dairy Queen dipped cones. You most likely will catch Cameron at your local Starbucks studying during the week and in the middle of the dance floor on the weekends.
