October 22nd COVID-19 Update: Over 300 New Cases Reported in Montgomery County in Last Two Days

Montgomery County reported 303 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 2 days (October 21-22, 2021) bringing the total number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases to 70,235 countywide since March 7, 2020.

There are currently 117 people hospitalized in Montgomery County hospitals due to severe COVID-19 symptoms. Of those COVID-19 patients, 14 people are on ventilators.

There was one new COVID-19 death reported in Montgomery County during October 21-22, 2021.

The current total deaths are numbered at 1,384 in Montgomery County, since March 7, 2020.

In Montgomery County, 65,964 people have been partially vaccinated, and 460,185 have been fully vaccinated. 30,208 have received a booster dose.

In Pennsylvania, approximately 13,511,900 total vaccines have been administered.

Pennsylvania COVID-19 Update of New Positive Cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported on Friday, October 22, there were 4,496 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 1,530,309.

There are 2,929 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 668 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. 

On Thursday, Oct. 21, there were 88 new deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, reported for a total of 30,903 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Vaccine highlights

Federal data representing all 67 counties:

  • According to the CDC, as of Thursday, Oct. 21, Pennsylvania ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered.
  • According to the CDC, as of Thursday, Oct. 21, 71.1% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

Statewide data representing the 66 counties within the Department of Health’s vaccine jurisdiction:

  • Pennsylvania’s vaccine dashboard was updated on Friday, July 9 to more accurately reflect the number of people who are partially and fully vaccinated in each county outside of Philadelphia, along with demographics of those receiving vaccine.
  • For state-to-state comparisons, refer to the CDC vaccine data tracker.
  • Vaccine providers have administered 13,511,900 total vaccine doses, including 430,083 additional doses (which includes additional shots for immunocompromised individuals and booster shots), as of Friday, Oct. 22.
  • 6,410,369 people are fully vaccinated; with 29,598 vaccinations administered since yesterday and a seven-day moving average of more than 24,800 people per day receiving vaccinations.

The department continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing a mask where required by law, rules, and regulations, including healthcare, local business, and workplace guidance.

For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public. CDC also recommends all individuals wear a mask indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.

There are 243,387 individuals who have a positive viral antigen test and are considered probable cases. 

There are 5,654,885 individuals who have tested negative to date.

In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there have been a total of 78,677 resident cases of COVID-19 to date, and 17,088 cases among employees, for a total of 95,765 at 1,642 distinct facilities in all 67 counties.

Approximately 32,175 of the total cases have been among health care workers.

The department continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance to wear a mask where required by law, rules, and regulations, including healthcare, local business, and workplace guidance.

For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated, are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public.

Stay well:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, not your hands.
  • Clean surfaces frequently.
  • Stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19, especially if you are unwell.
  • If you must go out, please wear a mask when in a business or where it is difficult to maintain proper social distancing.
