Konami has announced an eFootball 2022 update delay. The next update for the ill-fated soccer sim was originally due to arrive this month, but the developers have pushed it back to November in order to ensure an improved experience for players.

What is the reason for this eFootball 2022 update delay?

The latest eFootball 2022 update delay was announced via the game's official Twitter page. Originally, the update was slated to launch later in October, with Konami promising it would fix many of the issues identified by fans after eFootball 2022's initial launch last month. However, Konami has now confirmed that the update will arrive in November instead. The devs say this should hopefully give them time to "ensure the experience is improved" for everyone.

After launch, eFootball 2022 was widely derided for its buggy gameplay and bizarre facial modelling.

Konami says it's planning to announce the new eFootball 2022 update release date, along with exactly what will be fixed, "as soon as they are confirmed". It looks like we're going to have to wait a little longer to see if the studio can claw back the reputation of the once-great PES franchise. Delaying the update isn't necessarily a bad thing; after all, some might argue eFootball 2022 itself would have benefited from a delay. Hopefully, Konami can put this one right. It's going to have to try if it wants to once again compete with FIFA, which enjoyed a 10% increase (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz) in launch sales over FIFA 21 this week.

What could this eFootball 2022 update delay mean for the game?

It's hard to imagine that Konami will be able to keep to its previous update schedule given this delay. eFootball 2022 was, per Konami's own description, "basically a demo" at launch, meaning that many of the features that constitute the 1.0 full release are coming in a future update. Although the game's first major update was slated for November, the new October update delay means that Konami will almost certainly not be able to meet that target. It's also fair to say that pre-order bonuses and other content due to arrive in the next month or two may be delayed or even outright cancelled.

Unfortunately for you, Ronaldo, you don't have much to celebrate in eFootball 2022 right now.

We'll have to wait and see what's waiting on the bench for Konami's latest soccer endeavor. At time of writing, eFootball 2022 is still the worst-rated game on Steam, an throne it ascended a day after its release and from which it has yet to be usurped. One suspects that all the updates in the world won't save a game that's fundamentally broken and flawed on a design level, but that won't stop Konami from trying. We'll bring you more on this as we get it. In the meantime, you can, if you're feeling masochistic, download eFootball 2022 right now for free. It's available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and it's coming to mobile in the future as well.
