GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Halloween 2021 is almost here, and that means its time to bust out your spookiest costume and prepare for trick-or-treating.

Halloween falls on Sunday this year, and here’s a list of trick-or-treat times for several Grand Rapids communities.

Grand Rapids

Kentwood

Recommended trick-or-treat times are 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Rockford

Recommended trick-or-treat times are 5:30-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Rockford Chamber of Commerce is also hosting a trunk or treat event in downtown Rockford from 3-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Wyoming

The city of Wyoming does not establish trick or treating hours, according to a city spokesperson. The city advises children and families to “trick or treat when it works best for them and that kiddos head up to porches that have lights on, and if you’re not interested in participating that you keep your porch lights off.”

Trick or treating tips

The city of Grand Rapids offers the following tips for trick or treaters:

  • Turn on your front porch light at dusk
  • Only visit homes with a lit front porch light
  • Trick or treat with a parent or adult chaperone
  • Wear light-colored or reflective clothing after dusk
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Consider going house to house on the same side of the street and then double back on the other side. This will reduce the need to cross the street.
  • Walk on sidewalks. If you must walk in the street, walk on the left side facing traffic.
  • Do not go into any stranger’s home or car even if you are offered candy.
  • Do not eat any candy or other food until it has been examined by an adult.
  • Drivers should be especially aware and observant when driving through residential neighborhoods.
