A social media campaign has been pushing for Kristen Stewart to be cast as the Joker but it doesn’t sound like she’s that bothered.

Her old Twilight co-star – and former partner – Robert Pattinson is the new Batman, and fans think the pair should reunite in a DC film.

In a new interview with Variety, though, she quashed the idea of this happening. “I love the energy behind that. It’s really been done so well,” she said. “I feel like, maybe, we don’t traipse over, but I love that gusto. Let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person.” Isn’t the Joker freaky and scary enough?

When pressed if that was a firm ‘no’ to the idea of her as the Joker, she added: “Not ‘no’, but not the most stoked I’ve ever been. Let’s do something new.”

The Joker has famously been played and voiced by many stars through the years, including Heath Ledger and most recently Jack Nicholson, but the role has never went to a woman before.

Joaquin Phoenix was the most recent actor to play the villain, winning the Oscar for Best Actor in the process, and he sounds pretty keen to reprise the role in the future.

Fans shouldn’t get too disheartened by Stewart’s disinterest because the trailer for The Batman promises plenty of intrigue: Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Pattinson as the titular character look like a stunning and alluring pairing

And Paul Dano as The Riddler and Colin Farrell as the Penguin should mean the Joker won’t be missed as a villain too much.

Stewart is busy anyway, with Spencer, in which she portrays Princess Diana, set for release the the start of November.
