Laundrie — a person of interest in the death of fiancé Gabby Petito — was confirmed to be dead on Thursday, October 21 after his remains were found in the Carlton Reserve in Fl., earlier this week.

"The positive ID of Brian Laundrie's remains gives some measure of closure to this case, if not to Gabby's family who will likely now never know what truly happened," the famed bounty hunter said in a statement on Friday, October 22.

His parents Chris and Roberta Laundrie — who have previously been under public fire for appearing to not comply with the investigation — were assisting in the search on Tuesday when they came across a dry bag belonging to their son. Other items, including a notebook and a backpack, were discovered by law enforcement personnel nearby along with the human remains.

Hours later, the FBI confirmed that the bones were those of Laundrie, although no further details about his cause of death have been released at this time.

While it is unclear what exactly happened to Laundrie, his parent's lawyer claimed that their son was "very upset" when he left for a hike that he would never return from last month.
