LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- SUNDAY NIGHT UPDATE– A low-pressure system continues swinging through the region, bringing with it the opportunity for showers and storms. Some of those storms have and could still become strong to severe.
At this time, data continues to showcase strong wind gusts being the main hazard if a thunderstorm becomes severe. While the risk is lower, a brief tornado or two still cannot be ruled, and the reason for the issuance of the tornado watch that is in effect until 4 AM.
Isolated large hail will also be a possibility with the main area to watch for that being far west-central and northwest Arkansas.
TIMING: Showers and storms will begin to develop between 5 & 7 PM across northwestern Arkansas. This is the area of Arkansas that will have the greatest chance to see all hazards mentioned above due to there still being ample heat from the day.
After 7 PM, the arrival of the cold front should help support more development and the formation of a line of storms. This line will begin to move southeast with showers and storms near central Arkansas around midnight.
Overall, the severe weather window will be open from 5 PM, Sunday through 2 AM, Monday. After 2 AM, the line of storms should be too weak for any severe weather potential as it moves into the southern part of Arkansas.
