Shooting at Perry fire department leaves one man dead, victim's dad hospitalized

PERRY, Ga. - A man is dead and his father is in the hospital after a shooting at a fire station in Perry Thursday.

According to a media release, the shooting happened at the station on Washington Street just after 3 p.m.
Investigators say the father of the man killed pulled up to the fire station bay and asked for help. The firefighter saw the son had a gun and went to get help.
The father and son started fighting over the gun, resulting in the father getting shot in the upper body. Investigators say the son then shot himself.

Investigators tell WGXA News the son was going through a mental health issue at the time the shooting happened.
