Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta dropped his honest take on selling Emiliano Martinez for £16million last summer.

Despite having an impressive display for Argentina in the Copa America tournament, Martinez was never really given the same number of minutes at Arsenal.

The Argentian has recently ramped up his value due to his heroics for the national team and Aston Villa. Due to this, Arsenal fans have been questioning the club's decision to sell a quality goalkeeper.

Arteta breaks his silence regarding the talk behind the issue.

“We made decisions with the best possible interest of the club. But as well a big participant was Emi.”

“He got to a point in his career where under me he started to play big games very well,” Arsenal's boss shared.

“It was urgent for him because he wanted to play so long. He's a great kid. I played with him I managed him. I can say that I'm happy for him.”

Based on Arsenal's current form, the club can benefit from having a goalkeeper like Martinez as the Gunners sit at 12th in the Premier League table.

With Arsenal selling Martinez for such a low price, the deal indeed comes out as a bargain for Aston Villa since the Argentinian has impressed many football fans today.
