Police search for man in series of rock assaults in Manhattan, jogger is latest victim

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for at least one man who’s been attacking people with rocks or bricks in Morningside Heights.

All three attacks occurred between W. 119th Street and W. 125th Street, near or in Riverside Park, over the past week, according to the NYPD.

Police confirmed that the latest victim was a 47-year-old woman who was ambushed Wednesday morning in what they described as a pattern of rock assaults.

That victim, who gave her name as Nicole, spoke with WNBC, telling the station she was jogging at 7:45 a.m. when a man came up behind her and hit her with an object like a brick or a rock.

She said she had AirPods in her ears and never heard the man approach.

“I felt this excruciating pain on the top of my head, like a brick or something had fallen on me, and I almost saw stars like a cartoon, and everything sort of went black,” she said.

She was left covered in blood from her head. Passersby stayed with her until help arrived.

She said the man didn’t seem agitated, and he didn’t take anything from her.

“He had a very blank expression on his face, had his hood up, and was just sort of running away from me, and he ran into the Grant’s Tomb park area,” she said.

Now she’s trying to get the word out to warn others, as the man remains on the loose.

“I love this city. Running is my happy place. I love this neighborhood. And I was really concerned about this man being on the streets. And I was really concerned upon learning that he’s a serial attacker,” she said.

Sources told WNBC that the NYPD is adding more officers in the area as the search for the man continues.
