With her catchy “Whole Lotta Money” song, which described wearing all your jewellery just to the bodega (ie the offie) and name checked Fendi fits and Bottega shoes, BIA became fashion’s favourite rapper. “I just love being able to express my mood with fashion. I think style is a form of expression,” she explains, “putting vintage archive pieces together with new fashion really made me fall in love with creating new looks.” Her favourite piece is her custom BIA chain: “The bodega is always like, ‘Wow, BIA, you so fly, you always put that shit on!’”
The deluxe version of her FOR CERTAIN project is out today, featuring the ubiquitous Nicki Minaj “BarBIA” remix: “I learned so much from her!” The single and its remix’s viral success, with hundreds of millions of streams, wasn’t new to the rising star, coming two years after Rihanna posted herself walking to “Best On Earth” by Russ featuring BIA on Instagram, naming it her favourite song. “Every moment is different because you are at a different point of your life and career. Both were equally important, I look at my songs like my children, I love them all the same,” she reflects. Next will be a genre pivot to “RnBIA”, as she continues to make giant leaps to “leave an iconic legacy, have a big family, headline an arena tour and make a positive impact on the world”.
