EDM@ARI: McDavid records 200th career NHL goal

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Connor McDavid had two goals and an assist for the Edmonton Oilers in a 5-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena on Thursday.

McDavid has 201 goals in 411 NHL games; only Wayne Gretzky (242 games), Jari Kurri (328), Glenn Anderson (348) reached 200 goals faster in Oilers history.
He leads the NHL with six goals and 11 points.
"It's been a good start for our group, and when the team has success, individuals have success, and I think you're seeing that throughout the lineup," McDavid said.

Zach Hyman scored shorthanded and on a power play and Mikko Koskinen made 25 saves for the Oilers (4-0-0). Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had three assists.
Dysin Mayo scored in his first NHL game for the Coyotes (0-3-1), who are winless under new coach Andre Tourigny. Karel Vejmelka made 26 saves.
"We worked really hard at it," Tourigny said. "There's a lot of good things we did in the game. It was more consistent, more structured. Now we need to find a way to score goals and do the little things that will make a difference."
Oilers coach Dave Tippett split up McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for the first time this season, with Draisaitl dropping down to be the center on the No. 2 line. Tippett reunited them midway through the second period, and McDavid scored almost immediately to make it 3-0 at 8:53.
"I just kind of followed him (Draisaitl) into the slot there, he took a bunch of guys there to the net and I just tried to follow him in there," McDavid said.
Draisaitl scored his 200th and 201st goals in his 481th game in a 6-5 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
"We've kind of come up together and kind of grown up together and going through this whole thing together, it's fun," McDavid said. "It's special to be a part of that."
McDavid set up Hyman for his second goal, on a power play, for a 4-1 lead at 9:25 of the third.

EDM@ARI: Hyman nets second goal of game on power play

McDavid scored his sixth goal of the season on another power play to make it 5-1 at 10:58.
"[McDavid] is obviously a really special player and when you have a chance to play with him, you're pretty fortunate because he creates so much space and time and he's able to do a lot of things that nobody else can do," said Hyman, who moved up to McDavid's No. 1 line.
Warren Foegele scored his first goal with the Oilers on a rush following a Clayton Keller turnover as Edmonton took a 1-0 lead at 18:02 of the first. Hyman's shorthanded goal made it 2-0 at 6:31 of the second.
"It's early, there's lots to work on, but I like some of the things we're doing," Tippett said. "Our special teams have been pretty good, we've gotten contributions throughout the lineup a little more than last year. We're off to a decent start, but we've got a lot of work to do yet."
Mayo, a defenseman for making his NHL debut after five seasons with Tucson (American Hockey League), scored at 1:25 of the third to make it 3-1 ahead of Edmonton's two power-play goals.
"I wasn't expecting that, my goal was to play a shutdown game and show I can compete and play up here, and I think I did a good job with that," Mayo said. "I had a lot of energy all day and I was pretty nervous, and I just wanted to go out there and get my legs under me."

EDM@ARI: Mayo scores in 3rd period

Koskinen made his first start of the season after replacing the injured Mike Smith (lower body injury) to make 20 saves during a 6-5 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. Tippett expects him to play the second half of the back-to-back against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday.
"We came on the road to try to get four points; we've got two and now we've got to go into Vegas, and it will be a real tough game," Tippett said.
