Even if space is limited in your home, you can still create and maintain organization.

The tiny home craze and living in small spaces can be very liberating and is a current trend. When you want to create order in a small space there are some strategies to use that are simple, but powerful. Even if you don’t have limited space, these strategies can work for you too!

Don’t forget about the doors

Behind a door to a room or inside the door of a pantry, closet or even a cabinet is often an overlooked space that can solve many organizing challenges. Many closet systems now offer options for these spaces that include small shelves, baskets and hooks. A favorite of mine is using clear over the door shoe holders to store anything from cleaning products, socks or toys. Velcro strips and magnetic paint can also be used in these areas to store and organize smaller items.

Remember the area under your bed

Clean out the dust bunnies and make room for thin plastic bins with covers (that come in all sizes) to store off season clothing, shoes and even linen. If you use a dust ruffle on your bed, it’s a perfect cover for hidden storage. Some of these bins even come with wheels to make accessing them a breeze. Depending on the size of your bed, there could be a significant amount of additional storage you might be overlooking.

Every nook and cranny counts!

Look around your home and determine if there are areas where you can add a small hook to hang things like a mop or the dog’s leash. Command strips are terrific to use in small spaces as well. Baskets are another terrific item that can be added to corners of rooms to corral books, magazines, toys or blankets.

Use all of the vertical space in a closet

Most closets come with a hanging bar and one shelf. There is still a significant amount of space below the bar and above the shelf. Add an additional shelf or two above or add small stacking plastic drawer units to double the storage capacity. In addition, the hanging bar and shelf can be removed to add a customize a closet that meets your storage needs. We even added a small desk into a closet to help a client create a mini home office.

Think outside the box and be creative!
