Elliot Cole – “November 1: Homesick”

/

The opening track on Elliot Cole‘s new Journals, Vol. 1 EP, “November 1: Homesick” showcases the stirring sound of the NYC-based contemporary classical composer. Gentle acoustics help usher in dramatic strings, lending a cinematic feeling with the sweeping, melancholic pull. The strings and guitars escalate just past the mid-point, recalling here the works of Ryuichi Sakamoto. The guitar-forward emphasis and subtle vocal shrug thereafter plays with enticing qualities as the strings re-enter the fold. “November 1: Homesick” captures with its mood and knack for burgeoning instrumentation, exemplifying the EP’s strong pull.

“I usually make music to get outside myself, to explore, to roam. To discover something I didn’t already have in me,” Cole explains. “But Journals is a return to the personal – a pencil and a notebook, a private moment, drawing out what’s inside.”
