Dodgers call up Andy Burns to replace Justin Turner on roster

The Dodgers announced that they have added infielder Andy Burns to the 26-man roster in replacement of Justin Turner.

Burns was not on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, so the team had to make room for him by designating pitcher Edwin Uceta for assignment.

Turner exited last night’s game with what manager Dave Roberts said was a ‘Grade 2’ hamstring injury. With Turner being replaced, this means that his season is done. Even if the Dodgers were to advance to the World Series, Turner would be ineligible. Even if he were eligible to be activated, I think this injury would have sidelined him anyway.

For those curious, you have to replace an injured position player with another position player. Unfortunately, the Dodgers can’t add a bullpen piece.

Burns appeared in nine games for the Dodgers in 2021. He hit .273 with an OPS of .830. He adds infield defense for the Dodgers should they need it, plus an additional right-handed bat off the bench.

With Turner out, we will see Chris Taylor at third base and Albert Pujols at first base today with Cody Bellinger sliding back to center field.
