CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Driving an electric car just got easier for motorists in Montgomery County with the installation of a charging station at the Montgomery County Government Center located at 755 Roanoke Street in Christiansburg.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 893 stations with 2,465 charging outlets are in place across Virginia. In the New River Valley, there are less than two dozen electric car charging stations.

The Level 2 charging station allows two cars to charge at one time. Most electric vehicles can travel anywhere from 10 to 20 miles on one hour of charging with a Level 2 charging station.

“I am a huge supporter of sustainability initiatives throughout the county,” said Montgomery County Board of Supervisors member, April DeMotts. “In 2019, I asked my fellow supervisors to allocate funding in support of such initiatives. This electric charging station is just one of the many things we have done and plan to do to make sure that we are being good stewards not only with the tax payers’ dollars, but also with the environment.”
