Throughout the first half of the season, new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program sit in an unusual position. Heading into the first bye week of the season, Texas can’t seem to do anything but blow leads in the second half. Texas had two insane meltdowns two games in a row ahead of the first bye week of the season, one at the hands of each Oklahoma school in the Big 12.

Sark and the Longhorns finished up with a record of 4-3 (2-2 Big 12) heading into the first bye week of the season. Texas also sits on a two-game losing streak at the moment. The losing streak was delivered thanks to two massive second-half collapses at the hands of the No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Sooners and No. 12 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Texas football has a few positives to focus on still during the bye week

Texas held a sizable three-possession lead over Oklahoma in the first half of the Red River Rivalry game back on Oct. 9. And then, the game went far downhill for the Longhorns, especially in the second half. Even after the first quarter, Texas just couldn’t find the same rhythm on offense and stifling play on defense.

Moreover, Texas also managed to cough up a two-possession lead against Oklahoma State last weekend. Texas saw Oklahoma State score 19 straight points against them to close the game out with a win by the final score of 32-24.

While there are some positives that emerged in the first half of the season, they’re few and far between right now. But it can’t all be negative thoughts for the Longhorns during the bye week as they try and right the ship.
