If you find yourself coupled up in East Harlem and in dire need of a fire to canoodle around, drop in at Gaudir and see if the table by their fireplace is open. This tiny tapas restaurant takes up one narrow room with a bar, where couples or solo diners can hide out from the rest of the world. They keep the menu short: some decent tapas, charcuterie, a few mains, and three types of paella for a minimum of two people to share. We’re partial to the arroz de montaña with juicy pork ribs. Warm and low-key, this is the sort of place you hope is around when you get caught in a storm. Inside, nothing ever gets louder than a low hum.
