Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ big 2.0 update added gyroids and gyroid fragments, the wiggling, noise-making haniwa furniture. There are 36 gyroid collectables to find, each with a unique look and sound. Our Animal Crossing: New Horizons gyroid guide will teach you how to grow gyroids and list all of the gyroids in ACNH.

What are gyroids?

In ACNH, gyroids are special little decorations that make funky, unique sounds, and they’ll toot and tingle to music you play. (Gyroids only dance and sing when they’re placed around music, but they’ll wiggle around indoors or outdoors.)

Gyroids are based off of haniwa, ancient Japanese sculptures that were buried with the dead, which makes your ability to dig them up in your Animal Crossing world a little morbid. But who can resist a funny little guy who makes silly little sounds?

Lloid, the NPC that does the construction on your island, is a gyroid, and we’re not really sure why he’s sentient or if this means that all gyroids are sentient.

How to grow gyroids and gyroid fragments

Before you can grow gyroids, first you’ll have to take a boat trip with Kapp’n. Head to your island’s pier, and you’ll be able to sail in exchange for 1,000 Nook Miles.

On the island he takes you to, you’ll be able to find the usual crafting materials and fruits — you might even get transported to out-of-season islands. More importantly, the islands will have the X-shaped holes in the ground you’ve seen to mark all Animal Crossing: New Horizons fossils. On these islands, though, you’ll find a gyroid fragment.

How to grow gyroids ACNH

Take the gyroid fragment back home to your island. Dig a hole in the ground with your shovel, and select your gyroid fragment from your menu. Bury the gyroid fragment in the ground (using the Bury in Hole) option.

Water your gyroid like it was a plant or a tree. You’ll see a little puff of steam when you do this. That’s the only time you’ll need to water it. The next day, you’ll be able to dig up your gyroid.
