Syracuse, N.Y. ― Chris Bunch, a top 100 recruit in the 2022 class, announced on Thursday that he had committed to Syracuse University.

Bunch, who currently attends Wasatch (Utah) Academy, had narrowed his choices down to a final three of Syracuse, Washington and Rutgers.

“We loved the atmosphere there in Syracuse,’' Bunch’s father, Charlie Bell, said. “It’s a perfect fit there for Chris. Coach Boeheim wants him to come here there and be what he is, which is a scorer. With Buddy (Boeheim) and Cole (Swider) leaving after this year, there’s a perfect opportunity for him to come in there and be a major contributor and one of the top freshmen in the ACC.”

The 6-foot-7 forward is ranked No. 72 in 247Sports.com composite ratings for the 2022 class and No. 58 in 247′s own rankings. ESPN.com has Bunch listed at No. 97 in its class rankings. Rivals.com puts him at No. 81.

Bunch is considered an elite shooter with a lot of bounce. He can stretch the floor and take advantage of gaps in the defense to get to the paint.

Bunch had taken two official visits to see the Syracuse University campus within the past few months. He first saw the SU campus in June and then took another official visit on the weekend of Sept. 24-25.

“Going back on the second visit, it showed us it a lot,’' Bell said. “We got a chance to see the Dome live with the fans. The fan base was incredible. The Dome was incredible to see live.’’

Also on the SU campus that weekend was Peter Carey, a 6-11 center from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, Massachusetts. Carey committed to Syracuse last month.

Bunch becomes the fifth player in the 2022 class to commit to the Orange, including the second in the past week.

In addition to Carey, Syracuse also has commitments from three other players in the 2022 class: Justin Taylor, a 6-6 shooting guard from Charlottesville, Virginia; and Quadir Copeland, a 6-6 guard from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Taylor and Copeland are both attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, this year.

Just this past Saturday, Maliq Brown, a 6-foot-9 forward at the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Virginia, chose the Orange over Georgetown, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State and Penn State.
