Fire kills 77-year-old man in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) — A 77-year-old man died Thursday after a fire at his home in Overland Park, fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming out of the two-story home near Oak Park Mall.

After a neighbor reported a man might be in the home, firefighters found him on the second floor. The man, David L. Zabriskie, died later at a hospital.

Police said his wife had died recently and Zabriskie was in frail condition, KMBC-TV reported.

The fire was contained to the living room. The cause of the blaze is under investigation but no foul play is expected.
