EastEnders has hinted that newcomer Aaron Monroe will become the next Walford villain.

Former Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham has made his first appearance in the BBC soap as Dana Monroe's arrogant older brother.

In Thursday's (October 21) episode, Dana was encouraging her dad Harvey to make amends with the Panesars and others for his offensive comments. Then, and only then, she'd help him get his job back.

Unbeknownst to them, Harvey's son Aaron Monroe had arrived in the Square and was looking for his father. He managed to charm Tiffany Butcher, but it wasn't long before he showed his true colours.

The family headed over to the pub, where Dana disappointed her brother because she couldn't stay long. Aaron was furious when he heard about Harvey's planned apology to Ash for his racist comment.

"If she's misheard what you've said, that's her problem, not yours," he insisted.

Dana tried to encourage Harvey to go through with the apology, only for Aaron to turn nasty: "Shame on you. Putting others above your dad! Show him some respect and keep your mouth shut."

It has already been revealed that Aaron will continue his campaign to get his dad his job back by threatening a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against Harvey's former employer Kat Slater.

Aaron also begins to show an interest in his sister's love interest Bobby Beale once he learns the boy converted to Islam a few years earlier.

In a recent chat with Digital Spy, Wernham acknowledged that Aaron has all the makings of a very controversial soap character.

"Aaron's opinionated about everything, so it's something that he'll definitely have a say in. He'll definitely give his opinion on that, amongst a lot of other things," he said. "He'll try to take control of the situation, sort things out and try to do best by his dad and his sister.

"With Dana dating Bobby, Aaron is also going to have an opinion on whether he's good enough for her. He'll have a say on his dad, the flat, and his dad's job.

"It all comes from a good place, with his family especially. Aaron wants to protect them, he wants to keep them safe, and he wants people to respect them."

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
