‘Many Saints of Newark’ star Michael Gandolfini joins ‘The Offer’ cast

Another mob movie prequel? Must have gotten an offer he couldn’t refuse.

On the heels of starring in “The Sopranos” prequel “The Many Saints of Newark,” Michael Gandolfini is now set to join Paramount+’s “The Offer,” Variety reported Thursday

The 22-year-old son of the late “Sopranos” star James Gandolfini will play Andy Calhoun, a businessman set on purchasing Paramount, in the 10-episode series.

The biographical miniseries will tell the true story of producer Albert S. Ruddy’s making of the legendary 1972 mob movie “The Godfather.”

The show will also star Matthew Goode as producer Robert Evans, Giovanni Ribisi as Joe Colombo, Colin Hanks as Barry Lapidus, Dan Fogler as Francis Ford Coppola, Zack Schor as assistant director set-runner Fred Gallo and Juno Temple as Ruddy’s assistant Bettye McCartt, according to Variety. The series does not yet have a release date.

It was previously announced that Miles Teller will play Ruddy and Anthony Ippolito will portray Al Pacino.

Also potentially in the works for Gandolfini is a sequel to “The Many Saints of Newark” —so, a sequel to a prequel.

“We’re talking to David about a new series, ‘Sopranos’ related, on HBO Max,” WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff told Deadline Thursday, referring to “Sopranos” screenwriter David Chase.

The only way Chase would again revisit the beloved storyline is if the new series takes place after “The Many Saints,” which is set in the late 1960s and ’70s, but before “The Sopranos,” which is set in the late 1990s, Chase told Deadline. As well, “Sopranos” executive producer Terence Winter would need to be involved for him to work on it.

“There’s only one way that I would do it, and that was if Terry [Winter] and I could write the script together. That I would do,” he told the publication.

In non-mob-related work, Gandolfini is also set to be in the New Yorker Studios’ adaption of the viral story “Cat Person,” which was announced earlier this month
