Drake’s ‘Sexy’ Brings Him Back to No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay Chart

The superstar lands a record-extending No. 1 on the airplay chart as “Way 2 Sexy" advances to become the most-played song on U.S. monitored rhythmic stations.

Bust out the champagne yet again for Drake, who lands another record-extending new No. 1 single on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart as “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug, advances from the runner-up spot to lead the list dated Oct. 23. The track ascends with a 7% boost in plays to become the most-played song on U.S. monitored rhythmic stations in the week ending Oct. 17, according to MRC Data.

“Way 2 Sexy” dethrones Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby” after the latter led for the previous four weeks.

“Sexy” gives Drake his 33rd Rhythmic Airplay No. 1, easily the most among all artists since the chart began in 1992. He’s nearly lapped all his competitors, with Rihanna and her 17 leaders in second place, while Usher captures the bronze with 13 No. 1s. (And while Drake’s total has been helped by guest appearances, exactly two-thirds, or 22 of his champs, have come through lead or co-lead billings.)

Similarly, a new week atop the rankings pushes Drake to 127 weeks atop Rhythmic Airplay – again, the most. Rihanna ranks second here too, with 99 frames, and Usher repeats in third place with 61.

For Future, the new titleholder is his fourth No. 1, and third time sharing the summit with Drake. The two previously combined to top the chart with “Jumpman” for one week in 2016, while Future’s “Life is Good,” featuring Drake, also scored a week in charge in 2020. Between the pair, Future’s own “Mask Off” posted one week on top in 2017.

Young Thug also collects his fourth Rhythmic Airplay chart champ, after featured turns on Camila Cabello’s “Havana” (three weeks in 2018) and Post Malone’s “Enemies” (one week, 2019), and a collaboration with Chris Brown, “Go Crazy” (one week, 2020). Despite only one week in charge, “Crazy” broke the record for the most weeks in the top 10 on Rhythmic Airplay during its run, a span of 43 weeks from July 2020 – April 2021.

Elsewhere in the radio world, “Sexy” maintains its grip on the Rap Airplay chart for a fourth week at No. 1 and improves 7% in weekly audience impressions. It backtracks one place on both Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (1-2) and Pop Airplay (22-23), though it gains 3% in weekly plays on the latter list. On the overall Radio Songs chart, the single climbs one rung, 13-12, with a 7% boost to 42.8 million in weekly audience.

“Way 2 Sexy” is the lead radio single from Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album. The set, released in September, returns to No. 1 on the latest Billboard 200 for a fourth week.
