Don’t worry, he’s not playing a mobster this time

Michael Gandolfini is going from one mob movie to the next. The “Many Saints of Newark” star is joining Paramount+’s “The Offer.”

“The Offer” is about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather.” This time, Gandolfini will play Andy Calhoun, a businessman who is attempting to buy Paramount.

Gandolfini played a younger Tony Soprano in “The Many Saints of Newark,” inhabiting the same role that his father, James Gandolfini, played for eight seasons on HBO’s “The Sopranos.”

In addition to Gandolfini, “Hunters” actor Zack Schor has joined “The Offer” as Fred Gallo, the assistant director running the set of “The Godfather.”

The 10-episode series tells the behind-the-scenes story of “The Godfather,” considered among the greatest movies ever made. Nikki Toscano and Michael Toklin are co-writers and executive producers on the series, with Toscano serving as showrunner. It is largely based on producer Al Ruddy’s experiences from making the film.

Miles Teller will play Ruddy, and the two will executive produce the series. The cast also includes Matthew Goode, Dan Fogler, Colin Hanks and Giovanni Ribisi.

Fogler will play Coppola, while Hanks will star as Barry Lapidus, an executive at Gulf & Western who held a lot of sway over Paramount Pictures. Ribisi will portray legendary mobster Joe Colombo (who was also head of the Italian-American Civil Rights League), whose support for the movie was instrumental in getting it made. Goode will play legendary producer Robert Evans.
