'Night Raiders' Trailer: Taika Waititi-Produced Sci-Fi Film Takes A Look At A Grim Future

From “What We Do in the Shadows” to “Thor: Ragnarok” and everything in between, most projects Taika Waititi touches seem to turn to gold. Now that his executive-produced film “Night Raiders,” which premiered at TIFF earlier this year, is on its way to being released in theaters, it looks like Waititi is on his way to another hit.

The movie is set in the year 2043 when children are now property of the state. “Night Raiders” follows a mother as she joins an underground band of vigilantes in order to try and break into the state-run institution the Emerson State schools. She aims not only to get her daughter back, but every child that was stolen as well. The movie is meant to take place in the same universe as “Night Raiders” writer and director Danis Goulet‘s 2013 short film “Wakening,” which was set in a grim dystopian future.

“Night Raiders” stars Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (“The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open“), Brooklyn Letexier-Hart (“Burden of Truth“), Alex Tarrant (“800 Words“), Amanda Plummer (“Pulp Fiction“), Shaun Sipos (“Texas Chainsaw“).

Here’s the official synopsis:

A military occupation controls disenfranchised cities in post-war North America. A desperate Cree woman joins an underground band of vigilantes to infiltrate a State children’s academy and get her daughter back. “Night Raiders” is a female-driven dystopian drama about resilience, courage, and love.
