Album Review: Trivium – In the Court of the Dragon

Record sizzles the mind with music

American heavy metal band Trivium was formed in 1999, and they have released ten albums, including In the Court of the Dragon. Earlier this month, the band released In the Court of the Dragon, and every part bursts with awesomeness with the vocal performance from Matt Heafy dominating each track with his thrilling voice. The guitar playing from Heafy, Cory Beaulieu and Paolo Gregoletto fills the atmosphere with heart-shaking riffs, and the drum playing by Alex Bent rages havoc with thunderous drum beats. In the Court of the Dragon is a prime example of how metal still exists.

Beautiful “X” kicks things off with slow-paced instrumentation that will leave listeners guessing what will happen next. The tune is low-key simply due to the guitars creating a feeling of doom, the booming drumming beats make it feel like Trivium is going to start a war and the vocals chant within the darkness. “X” is a brilliant start to the album, and it will surprise people with how fast things can change.

The headbanger “Like a Sword Over Damocles” is a roaring piece that houses great guitar playing from Heafy and Beaulieu. Right off the bat, the noises of blazing notes burst out, blaring in the background, and the best part is found in the middle of the composition with a blend of a guitar solo and light riffs that contributes to the lingering insanity. The chemistry between Heafy and Beaulieu on “Like a Sword Over Damocles” is amazing, and both guitarists show how talented they are as musicians.

“A Crisis of Revelation” is a wild piece that has a great drumming performance from Bent. One of the most important parts of heavy metal is the drums. The drum heads and cymbals keep things together by creating a clashing sound, and Bent’s style steals the show with his quick change from harmonic to raging metal. “A Crisis of Revelation” is addicting, and Bent is a wonderful drummer.

While rattling the brain, “No Way Back Just Through” has Gregoletto playing his heart out on the bass guitar. While listening, deep rumbles raise in the darkness, and the vibrations are very strong. Also, Gregoletto’s guitar style blends in with rumbles that contribute to the untamed madness. “No Way Back Just Through” features killer guitar playing from Gregoletto.

The vengeful track “From Dawn to Decadence” has stunning vocals from Heafy. The way Heafy sings the lyrics brings the emotion of hatred, and the bold feeling can be felt through Heafy’s authoritative voice. “From Dawn to Decadence” is a fun song that has Heafy singing his heart out.

In the Court of the Dragons is a masterpiece, and Trivium used the elements of metal to create tracks that have face-smacking instrumentation and vocals.
