Thursday morning, state and local leaders gathered to celebrate the ground-breaking of a Tyson Foods facility in Pittsylvania County.
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam was among the attendees at the Cane Creek Center in Ringgold.
Tyson Foods' $300 million investment and its new 325,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will bring more than 375 jobs to Pittsylvania County.
The plant, which will produce fully-cooked Tyson products, is expected to be operational in early 2023.
"The Danville-Pittsylvania County-area has built a true economic development resurgence, and that continues to pay off with new jobs and investment from companies like Tyson. Tyson's continued growth and investments are a testament to Virginia's workforce and strong business environment, and we congratulate them on this new facility and look forward to many more years of success," Gov. Northam said.
Tyson Foods' portfolio features brands like Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park and State Fair. Tyson Foods employs more than 2000 Virginians.
On top of its capital investment, the company has committed to purchasing 60 million pounds of Virginia-grown chickens over the next three years.
