Meghan McCain defends ‘good friend’ Erika Jayne: ‘I believe her’

Meghan McCain is sticking up for her “good friend” Erika Jayne.

During her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” on Wednesday, McCain defended her pal when asked if she was “suspicious” of the timing of Jayne’s divorce filing from Thomas Girardi.

“The timelines match up to me,” said McCain, 36. “I believe her. I feel bad for her. I have known, I don’t know, but I know wealthy women who don’t know anything about their finances.”

She added, “I believe she has a good heart. I believe that she will be proven innocent.”

McCain explained that she and the “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, 50, became even closer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m like legitimately good friends with her. We became much closer doing COVID,” McCain exclaimed. “It’s a little weird. I remember specifically when I was coming back from my like my first doctor’s appointment after I gave birth, her calling me and like having a whole conversation about how stuff was going down in her life.”

At one point, Cohen, 53, also asked McCain her thoughts about people criticizing Jayne for not coming across as sympathetic enough to the plane crash victims from whom her estranged husband’s now-defunct law firm, Girardi and Keese, allegedly stole money.

“I would have loved to have consulted her,” McCain said. “I would have loved to have her hire me for some political consulting especially on her social media. I just think unfortunately that perception is reality in the time that we live in.”

Jayne is being sued for $25 million by the trustee handling the bankruptcy case for Girardi’s former law firm. The reality star has continuously denied knowing anything about Girardi’s alleged actions.

In late 2020, Jayne and Girardi, 82, were accused of allegedly embezzling funds meant for trauma victims represented by Girardi and Keese, including the families of those killed in 2018’s Lion Air Flight 610 crash. Jayne and Girardi later faced accusations that their November divorce filing was nothing but a “sham attempt” to protect their assets.

Part three of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Season 11 reunion airs Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
