’Tis the season for trade speculation, and rumor has it that Max Scherzer—if he doesn’t stay with the Dodgers after his free agency kicks in—could at least be staying in Southern California.
Mike Trout is apparently leading the charge to have Scherzer on the Angels next season, and the ace pitcher already has several connections to the current roster. He played on the Arizona Diamondbacks with outfielder Justin Upton, and third baseman Anthony Rendon was a Washington Nationals teammate for several seasons.
Scherzer is in the final year of a seven-year, $210 million contract that will pay out $34.5 million this season.
