I-90 reopened following fatal crash in Albany

I-90 accident in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) —  The Thruway Authority says a diversion at exit 24 of Interstate 90 has been lifted after a fatal crash Thursday morning. Though the left and center lanes are open, the right lane is still closed.

New York State Police confirmed to NEWS10 that one person was killed in the crash, and pronounced dead at the scene. They released the victim’s name on Friday. She has been identified as Bernice Rostocki, 58, of Latham. Their investigation suggests that an eastbound tractor-trailer lost control and traveled through the median and guard rail, causing a head-on collision with a westbound vehicle. The crash took place around 10 a.m.

The deceased was driving the westbound passenger vehicle. The driver of the truck and their passenger both had minor injuries and were treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Officials closed all the westbound lanes of I-90—from I-87 to I-890 in Albany—while responders dealt with the fallout and cleanup from the crash, and state police completed accident reconstruction. Traffic was forced to take exit 24 for I-87/Northway, as the crash was located between that exit and Schenectady at exit 25.
