Cristiano Ronaldo once again saved Man United at the death on Wednesday in a thrilling 3-2 Champions League victory over Atalanta. The Portuguese international went on a bit of a cold spell in front of goal which drew some criticism, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer quickly came to Ronaldo's defense after he completed the comeback for the Red Devils. Via Goal:

” Cristiano is great in front of goal. If anyone wants to criticise him for effort and work-rate just watch this game. Watch how he runs around for Man United.”

“I was really, really pleased with how [Ronaldo] led the line. Run the channels, drop in, press more, we wanna get the crowd behind us.

“He was down inside his own six-yard box at the end, you see him sprinting, he did everything a centre-forward should do. And the goal is what he does better than most.”

It was another shaky start for Man United as they went into the tunnel at halftime down 2-0. But a brand new side came out in the second period, putting three past the Serie A outfit. Ronaldo's smashing header capped it off, sending Old Trafford into a frenzy.

The 36-year-old has now bagged six goals in eight appearances since his return to Manchester, with three of them coming in Europe. While Man United has endured their struggles as of late, Ronaldo is still coming through with goals when his team needs it most.

A true talisman.
