CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – You can now rent a ride outside of Chicopee City Hall all thanks to Valley Bike Share.
A ribbon cutting to officially unveil the new station across the street from City Hall with city officials and Chicopee Mayor John Vieau was held Thursday afternoon. Valley Bike Share’s goal is to meet the Pioneer Valley’s unique challenges of promoting short bike trips within western Massachusetts communities.
Community Outreach and Bike Share Development Shannon Bliven told 22News, “This is our first station in Chicopee and it’s our eighth city that has joined the group, we are expanding every year and it’s really exciting.”
Registration for memberships are available at ValleyBike.org. A day pass is $6 for 24 hours and the bike must be docked every 30 minutes. If the bike is not returned after 24 consecutive hours, the bike will be considered stolen and a fee of $2,000 will be applied. Additional passes include monthly, pay per ride, and student memberships.
Valley Bike’s mission is to promote short bike trips within communities to help connect people to work, shopping and school. Valley Bike serves the communities of Amherst, Easthampton, Holyoke, Northampton, South Hadley, West Springfield, Springfield and now Chicopee.
