THUNDERBOLTS SIGN DEFENSEMEN JONES, THACKER

Evansville, Ind: The Evansville Thunderbolts Professional Hockey Team of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jeff Bes have announced the signings of defensemen Cooper Jones and Kyle Thacker.

Jones, the native of Bridgewater, Mass., played with the Thunderbolts for 5 games in the 2019-20 season after being acquired from the Knoxville Ice Bears, scoring a goal and an assist before being traded to the Macon Mayhem. Prior to 2019-20, Jones played three seasons of major junior hockey with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads and played 5 games in the ECHL as a member of the Adirondack Thunder.

Thacker was acquired by the Thunderbolts from the Peoria Rivermen only one week into the 2019-20 season, and was a mainstay defenseman for the Thunderbolts, playing 39 games and tallying 10 assists while being an effective shutdown player against opponents’ top lines. Prior to 2019-20, the Mississauga, Ontario native played a full season with the Fayetteville Marksmen and played 4 ECHL games with the Wheeling Nailers following 4 years of college hockey with SUNY-Potsdam, serving as team captain in 2017-18.
