KILLINGLY - The discovery of a water leak and mold at Killingly’s Goodyear Early Childhood Center means students will be learning online through next week as repairs take place.

In a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, Superintendent Robert Angeli said a water leak caused damage to walls between a classroom and maintenance closet. He said students and staff were initially relocated to other parts of the building while tests were conducted. He said the presence of mold was later detected.

Angeli said the school, at 22 Williamsville Road in Dayville, will move to remote learning beginning on Thursday with remediation beginning on Friday. That work is expected to take several days.

Killingly's Goodyear Early Childhood Center closed for several days due to mold and water issues.

Before and after programs at the school are canceled and will resume when the building reopens. A family event scheduled for Thursday has been postponed.

“We are hopeful for a return by the end of next week,” Angeli said in his letter. “I am sorry for this additional issue that some of our students, families and staff will go through in what has already been a very challenging school year.”
