Central’s offense struggles in women’s soccer loss
Despite outshooting its opponents 11-3, the Central College women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 match at Coe College Wednesday night. The Dutch (8-6-1, 2-4-0 American Rivers Conference) could not find the back of the net against the Kohawks (3-11-1, 2-4-0 conference) despite attempting eight more shots. The Kohawks only had one shot on frame but converted it for a goal. Central put five shots on frame.

Midfielder Emma Rodman and forward Grace Coates each had two shots. Jasmyn Bush took the loss in goal.

Central returns home Saturday for a noon match against the University of Dubuque. The Dutch will honor the program’s lone senior, defender Sydney Canney in a pre-game ceremony.

Dutch men’s soccer team gets back in win column
An early goal from senior midfielder Jake Dzarnowski was enough for the Central College men’s soccer team to secure a 1-0 victory over Coe College Wednesday night. It was the first win for the Dutch (3-9-1, 1-4-1 American Rivers Conference) since beating Carleton College (Minn.) 1-0 on September 19. The seven matches since have been marred by injuries to key players and Coach Garry Laidlaw was happy to snap the streak.

In the 12th minute, Dzarnowski buried it into the back of the net following a Tristin Gilles corner kick.

The back line for the Dutch was starting together for the first time this season Lucas Bartachek, Joe Brown, Michael Handel and Tim Shicky held the Kohawks off the scoreboard in front of keeper John Foster. Foster made two saves. Making his varsity debut, Chandler Hebert gave a stellar performance over 55 minutes of work in the back.

Central hosts the University of Dubuque for Senior Day on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
