Redding's Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU) arrested another suspected drug dealer on Tuesday night following an investigation into recent narcotic sales within the city.
Redding police said the suspect, 40-year-old Holly Newman, a Redding resident with multiple violent felonies, was arrested Tuesday night, October 19, after NPU officers found her with drugs, and eventually firearms including a "ghost gun."
NPU said they've been investigating Newman for the past several weeks for narcotics sales. NPU officers made contact with Newman during a traffic stop around 7 p.m. on Tuesday and said they found her with 7.5 grams of methamphetamine, 8.78 grams of psilocybin, and 8.9 grams of heroin.
NPU later obtained a search warrant for two storage units Newman owned. They searched the units and reported finding a shotgun and a loaded, unregistered AR-15 "ghost gun" rifle. Merriam Webster's definition of a "ghost gun" is a gun that lacks a serial number and is typically assembled by the user—from purchased or homemade components.
Ultimately, Newman was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for felon in possession of firearms, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed stolen firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substances for sale, transportation of controlled substances for sales, possession of a non-serialized firearm, carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony and possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm.
Newman is being held on $25,000 bail.
