Phoenix Suns plays in 1st home game since historic run for NBA title

The Phoenix Suns took to the court once again on Oct. 20, taking on the Denver Nuggets after a history-making season. FOX 10's Brian Webb reports.

The Phoenix Suns took to the court once again on Oct. 20, for the first home game of the season.

Phoenix's NBA team, also the defending Western Conference champions, are hoping to take things one step further for this new season, by bringing home an NBA championship, something they tried to do last season, but ultimately came up short.

For their first home game, the Suns took on the Denver Nuggets. While it might be hard for the Suns to top last season, Game 1 is the first step in that direction, and some fans say they can't wait.

"It’s something we’ve always wanted to do: go to games, experience the crowd's atmosphere," said Jose Trejo.

"I've been waiting since 1993 to bring home a championship, burger, and the rest of the guys, I think we can do it," said Adam Perez.

A semi-small, quiet crowd waited outside the Footprint Center before the doors opened, and fans came from far and wide.

"I got up at 4:30 to fly in from Portland to come here, so, pretty exciting," said Chris Coffel.

"I came from Orange County, California," said Jeff Willens. "I have had season tickets. I’m an avid Suns fan."

Home games mean fans, and fans bring money to Downtown businesses.

"When folks are having a good time, they’re enjoying a nice beer, and when they’re supporting local teams, they’re supporting local breweries, and it just one adds to the other, and it’s fantastic to be a part of," said Johncie Thompson.
