Tornados defeat McMurry, extend win streak to four

AUSTIN, Texas – Savannah Kari registered a career-high 10 kills, while Sarah Ghormley and Kylexus Block each had double-double performances and the Concordia Texas volleyball team won their fourth match in a row, taking down McMurry 3-1 on Tuesday.

The Tornados returned to Concordia Fieldhouse after a 3-1 road trip, which included a five-set victory over the War Hawks back on Oct. 8. Despite, splitting the first two sets, CTX pulled away to win the match in four frames 25-13, 16-25, 25-13 and 25-22.

Three Tornados ended the match in double figures in kills, led by Ghormley's game-high 16 on the night and added a game-high 14 digs. Block also had a double-double for the game, totaling 11 kills and 13 digs.

Meanwhile, Kari, racked up a career-high 10 kills at a .412 attacking percentage and tallied seven digs defensively in the win.

In the opening set, CTX jumped out to a 7-0 lead that included back-to-back service aces by Krystal Gundy as well as a pair of kills by Ghormley.

The Tornados never looked back in the set, hitting at a .357 mark and had 13 kills on their way to taking a 1-0 lead.

McMurry responded with a wire-to-wire win in set two to even the match at 1-all.

Ghormley and Block helped CTX retake the lead in the third set, combining for 11 of the team's 13 kills in the frame.

Tied at 8-8, the Tornados utilized a 12-1 run, including four kills from Ghormley in that stretch, pulling away for a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the final frame, there were four lead changes and seven ties.

Concordia Texas went ahead 7-1 to open the set, but McM did not go away easily and battled back to knot it up at 10-all.

The teams went back and forth till the War Hawks held a 21-18 advantage after a service error.

The Tornados rallied though, winning seven of the final eight points of the set, which included four of Ghormley's six kills in the frame, ending the match in four sets with a 3-1 victory.

Gundy and Alyssa Legette each finished in double figures in assists, while Kaitlyn Ruiz added 11 digs defensively.

Concordia Texas will continue their homestand on Friday, hosting LeTourneau at 6 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
