Report: Ameer Abdullah to sign with Carolina Panthers

He won’t be back after all, it appears

For the past couple of seasons, running back Ameer Abdullah has provided the Minnesota Vikings with solid play as both a kickoff returner and a running back. With the team activating rookie Kene Nwangwu on Tuesday and releasing him to make room, it appears that the veteran will be taking his services elsewhere.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Abdullah is moving on to join the team that the Vikings defeated this past Sunday, the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers are going to be without star running back Christian McCaffrey for the next couple of weeks, and while Abdullah obviously isn’t going to be the primary replacement for him, he can provide a change of pace from rookie Chuba Hubbard and veteran Royce Freeman in the Carolina backfield.

Abdullah joined the Vikings midway through the 2018 season after being released by the Detroit Lions. Over the past few years, he has played in 45 games for the Vikings, carrying the ball 38 times for 187 yards and catching 27 passes for 163 yards and three scores.

Here’s hoping for the best for Ameer Abdullah as he moves on to Carolina.
