Senate Republicans filibuster backed voting rights bill

PORTLAND (WGME) -- Senate Republicans today successfully filibustered a democratic backed voting rights bill.

The move effectively kills the bill.
Senator Angus King now wants to see changes to the filibuster.
Today, King said he wants it to be more difficult for the opposition to stop something.
"Right now you have to have 60 votes to move something forward," King said. "I think the standard ought to be the opposition has to have 41 votes to find and have on the floor to stop something. You can vote no by not being there."
King helped write the voting bill, which he saw as a way to safeguard against actions in many state legislatures.
