Onondaga County reported 40 new admissions to hospitals over the past weekend.
Hospitals, that are in crisis mode, operating with severe staffing issues.
We asked County Executive Ryan McMahon how much the county can do to help.
"The real challenge is staffing now and it's really pandemic drive," said McMahon.
"We speak to the hospital CEOs on a daily basis and communicate frequently about the things we can do to relieve pressure on the hospitals," McMahon added.
The county ramped up testing efforts for the community which McMahon said relieves the pressure from urgent cares and hospitals.
With winter weather and the holidays around the corner, we asked McMahon if it was time to put more COVID-19 protocols in place to try and keep case counts down.
"We're looking at it and watching it closely, we follow the data every day," McMahon said.
According to McMahon, the majority of new cases are coming from household contacts.
"Household contacts are the largest demographic and that's happening in your own home, so if you get it potentially your loved ones or children can get it," said McMahon.
When heading back indoors, McMahon suggests people choose to wear masks when going out to crowded places like grocery stores or to other areas where there are a lot of people.
