Report: Miami Dolphins could trade Tua Tagovailoa to 3rd team amid potential deal for Deshaun Watson

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly considering a possible trade for disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, which means Tua Tagovailoa’s time in Miami could be coming to an end.

Armando Salguero of OutKick mentioned that trade talks between the Texans and Dolphins have increased recently, with the Dolphins possibly dealing Tagovailoa to a third team.

“The Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and a third team are in trade negotiations that could ultimately send quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Dolphins and current Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a third team, according to an NFL source,” wrote Salguero.

“There has been significant movement in the talks between the Texans and Dolphins in recent days, which occurred even as the Dolphins sunk to a 1-5 record with five consecutive losses to start this season.

“But no deal has been consummated, in part, because the Dolphins have been discussing potentially moving Tagovailoa to a third team in a separate deal that would return to them draft choice compensation they can use either in the Watson deal or to replace draft picks they would send to Houston.”

Watson has been linked to the Dolphins in a possible deal since the start of the year. Prior to the legal questions that have kept him off the field this year, his relationship with Texans management had deteriorated.

The Dolphins have publicly indicated in the past that Tagovailoa is their quarterback of the future, though the team’s 1-5 start may have changed their thinking.

Tagovailoa is just 23 and was the fifth overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, he entered the league with questions about his health and then was injured earlier this year.
