BULLDOGS SHUT OUT

In a highly anticipated football game at Bulldog Stadium last Friday night, the Bulldogs (5-2, 1-1) came up just short Friday night against Carrizo Springs as the unbeaten Wildcats (7-0, 2-0) pulled away in the final minutes for an 18-0 win.

Bandera was within one score (6-0) with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and had a handful of promising drives that would have provided an opportunity to take the lead, but the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize against a Carrizo Springs defense that has posted five shutouts and is allowing an average of just seven points per game.

“Our kids fought hard and played their tails off the entire game,” Bandera athletic director and head football coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee said. “Defensively, we played lights out and our special teams were great as well. They gave us a chance to win the football game. Offensively, untimely mis takes prevented us from scoring and ultimately that was the difference in the game. I’m very proud of our guys holding their composure and modeling both our football core values and our district’s core values as well.

The Bulldogs dropped to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in District 15-4A Division II play with the loss, setting up an important battle on the road against Devine this week. The Warhorses are 5-2 and 1-1, with their only district loss coming in a 33-27 final against Carrizo Springs.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Warhorse Stadium.

“While I’m disappointed in the loss against Carrizo Springs, our staff feels like this could be the turning point in our season,” Amedee said. “We look forward to seeing a big Bandera crowd on the road in Devine at 7:30 on Friday.”
