Penn State Football: 247 Sports Rates Allar Nation’s Top Quarterback in 2022 Class

Penn State verbal commit Drew Allar is now rated the nation’s No. 1 quarterback prospect for the 2022 class per the 247 Network which updated its rankings on Wednesday.

In terms of overall rating the Ohio native would come to Happy Valley as the program’s third-highest ranked high school signal caller ever behind Anthony Morelli and Christian Hackenberg if his ranking holds until the mid-December early signing period.

When Allar first announced his pledge to the Nittany Lions, he was considered the 10th-best pro-style quarterback recruit in the country and the 10th-highest regarded prospect from the Buckeye state. Since then, his stock has only skyrocketed.

After an impressive offseason camp cycle, Allar was invited to the Elite 11 finals in Los Angeles, an invite-only showcase displaying the nation’s top gunslingers in a competition-styled event. Despite not capturing MVP honors, Allar’s 6’5″ frame and powerful arm drew praise from analysts across the country.

In nine games as a starter this season, Allar has led Medina High School to an undefeated, 9-0 record. The three-year starter is currently having his best campaign on record, throwing for 326 yards per game, 31 touchdowns, and four interceptions, all while completing passes over a 65% clip.

Naturally, his rapid progression has gained the attention of many of the nation’s top college programs, but Allar has stood firm on his loyalty to Penn State since making his commitment in March.

With questions looming about Sean Clifford’s potential return for a sixth year coupled with limited quarterback depth on the Nittany Lions’ current roster, Allar could have the chance to compete for instant playing time in Mike Yurcich’s offense next fall.
