God Of War is coming to PC next year Sony Santa Monica announced Wednesday.

The wildly successful reboot has sold 19.5 million copies on PS4 and will now reach an even wider audience.

The game is slated for a January 14th, 2022 release date and joins titles like Death Stranding, Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn as once-PlayStation exclusives that have made their way to the far superior PC platform. (PC Master Race ftw!)

The game will bring improved graphics, a no-cut camera, ambient occlusion, DLSS, true 4K and unlocked framerates to PC. It will also make use of Nvidia’s Reflex low latency tech to make the action that much tighter.

In short, it will be the best version of an already great game that you can buy. As someone who owns the game on PS4 and can access the game via the PS5’s PlayStation Plus collection, I will still absolutely re-purchase it for PC (I’d ask for a review code but Sony has, for reasons they refuse to offer, blacklisted us).

I’m also looking forward to the 21:9 ulta-widescreen support which will make the game even more expansive on my Acer Predator ultra-widescreen monitor.

God Of War on PC will support DualShock and DualSense gamepads as well as keyboard and mouse (and other gamepads, including Xbox). Keyboard and mouse will be fully customizable.

Anyone who purchases the game on PC will also get:

  • Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus
  • Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin
  • Buckler of the Forge Shield Skin
  • Shining Elven Soul Shield Skin
  • Dökkenshieldr Shield Skin

All of this is exciting news, though not surprising given Sony’s very smart strategy of releasing its top first-party games on PC at a later date. Microsoft releases its first-party titles on PC and Xbox on the same day (and you only have to purchase them one time, and they’re always part of Game Pass) which is definitely more pro-consumer, but maybe not quite as smart from a business perspective.

Either way, good news for fans of the God Of War reboot and especially for those who haven’t had a chance to play it yet. It’s also good marketing for the upcoming sequel God Of War: Ragnarok.
